Background
Having been hooked by the magic of photography since I was a kid, I attended Bournemouth Film School, which I found to be an excellent preparation for life as a professional cameraman. I then developed considerable experience with the BBC in all aspects of Television work, working my way up from trainee to clapper loader, focus assistant and Camera Operator. Here I worked with the best in the business including Anthony Mingella, Roland Joffe, Dame Peggy Ashcroft, and HRH The Queen.
When the BBC promoted me to Film Cameraman about 12 years ago the fun really started. It was now that I had the opportunity to hone my skills and to experiment with new techniques. I had the opportunity to work on most of the programme departments within the BBC. I am probably best known within the Documentary, Children's, Music and Arts and Education Departments. I also have experience within Drama, Comedy and Natural History Departments.
In 1997 I became the first and still the only person, to achieve 2 NVQs at level 4 in Film and Television Photography and Lighting Direction.
In April 2000 the BBC Film Unit Closed and I decided to continue my career in a freelance capacity. This has been an exciting time for me as I have had the opportunity to seek new opportunities with Independent and Corporate Production Companies. I am also continuing to work with many of my regular BBC Producers. On leaving the BBC I have started a small business hiring top quality Film and TV equipment to fellow professionals and Production Companies at competitive prices.
I am well known for my sense of tact, discretion and patience, particularly when filming in difficult situations. I have a working knowledge of the French language, and am an experienced traveller. I am a qualified First Aider and have completed a Health and Safety and Risk Assessment Course.
At the weekend you will find me going for long country walks, pottering in the garden or messing about with the kids.
